Alternatives to PFAS for nozzle load break gas switchgear
This paper presents the research work performed in the search of alternatives to PFAS in the nozzle of load break gas switchgear. A brief explanation of how forced gas flow load break switches function is explained. The process of finding suitable alternatives includes an initial evaluation of the basic desired properties of the nozzle material using TGA, tracking and ablation test. The analysis of the alternatives in switching tests is carried out for PFA and POM, performing a series of tests (CT scan, FTIR, EDS) to determine the differences between both materials and evaluate the performance of POM. Based on the results, the high ablation of POM may be the primary concern for this material to replace PFAS.
