Two-dimensional approach for condition assessment of high voltage air-insulated circuit breakers
Modern asset management in power systems increasingly emphasizes condition-based maintenance strategies to ensure the safe, efficient, and sustainable operation of critical equipment. This contribution presents a two-dimensional systematic evaluation approach for the condition assessment of high voltage air-insulated circuit breakers, integrating diagnostic data into two indices: the lifetime consumption index for long-term renewal planning and the failure risk index for short-term maintenance prioritization. The methodology employs a tiered assessment model, ranging from visual inspections to comprehensive analyses requiring equipment de-energization, with results aggregated and weighted to provide actionable insights. A field trial conducted with Netze Duisburg GmbH on twelve 110 kV circuit breakers validated the practical application of the system, highlighting its effectiveness in identifying maintenance priorities and extending asset lifecycles.
