OLED-OPD Integrated System: Technological Development and Application
Because the materials of organic light-emitting diodes (OLED) and organic photodetectors (OPD) are complementary and the processes are relatively similar, the OLED-OPD integrated system can achieve both display and light sensing functions on the same flexible substrate. This makes consumer electronic devices thinner, lighter, bendable, and more functional. Through improvements in new materials and structural designs, such as the use of phosphorescent materials and perovskites, and the adoption of pixel-level embedding and vertical stacking methods, the device efficiency, spectral response, and space utilization have been significantly enhanced. Its applications include full-screen biometrics, automatic dimming, non-contact gesture interaction, and continuous health monitoring. Particularly in wearable medical devices, it can be used to measure blood oxygen, heart rate, and non-invasive blood pressure. However, there are still some difficulties at present, such as complex manufacturing processes, insufficient flexibility reliability, inaccurate data, and high production costs. In the future, with technological advancements, these problems are expected to be gradually resolved, making devices more durable, feature-rich, and even opening up entirely new application areas.
