Factors associated with the development of research competencies in university professors from the Peruvian amazon

Currently, research competencies play a fundamental role in academia, especially among university professors, as they contribute to both professional development and the improvement of educational quality and scientific production in higher education institutions. The aim of this study was to identify the associated factors that influence the development of research competencies in university professors from the Peruvian Amazon. A quantitative approach was adopted, using a non-experimental, predictive design. The sample consisted of 158 university professors who completed the Research Competencies Questionnaire, an instrument that demonstrated very high internal consistency (α = 0.974). The multiple linear regression model was statistically significant (F = 17.523; p < 0.05) and explained 60.5% of the variance in research competencies (R² = 0.605). The most influential factors were the highest level of education attained (β = 0.304), membership in a research group (β = 0.214), weekly hours dedicated to research (β = 0.211), registration in RENACYT (β = 0.175), and sex (β = 0.142), all of which showed statistically significant effects (p < 0.05). It is concluded that the development of research competencies in university professors is significantly influenced by academic, professional, and sociodemographic factors, with key determinants being educational attainment, active participation in research groups, time dedicated to research, RENACYT registration, and sex.
