XIX. Yüzyıl Sonlarında Safranbolu’nun Köyleri

After Safranbolu came under Turkish rule during the Seljuk period of Turkey, many Turkish tribes settled around Kastamonu and Safranbolu. The Turkish tribes who came to this region settled in the settlements that had become ruins during the Byzantine period and established many new villages. Turkish tribes gave their own tribal names to these newly established villages. The fact that village names such as Kayı, Afşar, İğdir, Bayındır and Alayuntlu from Oghuz tribes are found in the region proves this situation. After the weakening of the Seljuks of Turkey after the Kösedağ War, Safranbolu surroundings first came under the rule of Çobanoğulları and Candaroğulları principalities, and Fatih Sultan Mehmet took Kastamonu and its surroundings under the rule of the Ottoman Empire. Since the period of the principalities, many new Turkish villages have been established in the region. During the Ottoman Period, Safranbolu surroundings were generally administratively located within the borders of Kastamonu. It maintained this administrative structure until the beginning of the XXth century. In this research, the names of the villages established around Safranbolu during the Ottoman period were determined, and the villages that were dispersed after the Celali rebellions were identified according to Ottoman archival documents. Many villages established in Safranbolu in the 16th century continue to exist today, and evaluations have been made about the changes in the names of some villages and the district and nahiye administrations to which they are administratively connected.
