Expectativas de coparentalidade em casais homossexuais habilitados para adoção

INTRODUCTION: Many families of same gender couples seek to exercise parenting through adoption, which contemplates a series of steps and demands from the couple a common desire and project. The joint construction of adoptive parenting might encompass how the couple shares their responsibilities and cares for the children. OBJECTIVE: This qualitative case study aimed to know the expectations related to coparenting by gay and lesbian couples waiting to adopt a child. METHOD: Four couples whose members answered, individually, to a sociodemographic data questionnaire and a semi-structured interview participated in this study. Data were analyzed through deductive thematic analysis. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION: The results indicate that homosexual couples awaiting adoption demonstrate expectations of collaborative coparenting, based on dialogue, mutual support and equitable division of parental responsibilities. CONCLUSIONS: Such expectations reflect potential indicators of healthy coparenting, which favors family adaptation after adoption and contributes to the deconstruction of parental models based on gender norms.
