Kasaplık Piliç Üretiminde Bandırma İlçesindeki İşletmelerin Yapı ve Fonksiyonel Özellikleri Üzerine Bir Çalışma

This study, conducted in 2011, aimed to evaluate the structural characteristics of 187 broiler chicken houses out of a total of 250 located across 31 villages in the Bandırma district. The majority of the examined facilities were concentrated in the villages of Akçapınar, Bereketli, Doğruca, Kuşcenneti, Misakça, Ömerköy, and Yeşilçomlu. Regarding capacity, 68% of the poultry houses had between 10,000–20,000 birds per cycle, and 22% housed 20,000–30,000 birds. Most houses were less than 12 meters wide and under 100 meters long. Sidewall heights ranged between 2.5 and 3.9 meters, directly influencing thermal loss. The surface area and volume per bird were also analyzed, with many poultry houses falling below recommended levels. Building materials included brick walls, concrete floors, and roofing made predominantly of asbestos cement (eternit), with insulation using glass wool or styrofoam. Heat transmission coefficients were calculated as 1.35 Kcal m-² °C for walls and 0.33–0.35 Kcal m-² °C for roofs. Poor insulation necessitated additional heating systems, as ventilation-related heat loss exceeded the total heat produced by the animals. Artificial lighting was required due to insufficient natural light. Feed silos were placed outside the houses with capacities ranging between 200–300 tons. Waste was stored in open areas, raising environmental concerns. Basic auxiliary units such as caretaker rooms, equipment storage, and disposal pits were present in 95% of the facilities. The study highlights the need for improved insulation and structural upgrades in broiler poultry houses to enhance energy efficiency and animal welfare.
