Türk Romanında Kadın Yazarların Kaleminden Doğal Arzu Sorgulaması

This article focuses on how natural desire was questioned through the female protagonists of four female writers who published their novels between 1950 and 1980. In this article, the natural desire transformations of female characters will be examined in the context of the republican woman type by utilizing Freud’s natural desire (id) and Lacan’s symbolic (the law of father) concepts. In her novel Korsan Çıkmazı (1961), Nezihe Meriç, for the first time, begins to question the natural desire of women in the symbolic order with the female protagonists representing the republican woman, in the context of the mother-daughter conflict, to become free, to gain a place in society by becoming a professional, and to have women accepted in social life. In Leyla Erbil’s novel Tuhaf Bir Kadın (1971), the female protagonists, as a republican woman type, opposes the law of father in the symbolic order (mother, family, society, patriarchal environment) and wants to live as a free woman in line with her natural desires (studying at university, becoming a female poet). Following these two novels, the main character, a republican type woman, in Adalet Ağaoğlu’s novel Ölmeye Yatmak (1973) emphasizes the natural desire of women by revealing the fictionality of the republican woman type in the symbolic order. The female protagonist in the novel enters into the formation of a new self by criticizing and trying to destroy the fictional self of the republican type of woman and as a free woman she tries to live her natural desires outside the laws of the symbolic order (societal laws, family laws, republican laws, etc.). In Füruzan’s novel 47’liler (1974), the conflict between the mother, who represents the republican woman type, and her daughter, who opposes her values, is discussed. In this mother-daughter conflict, the natural desire of women is defended by the new generation of women. The woman who is the main character of the novel, realizes her natural desire, which she has integrated into socialist doctrine (to study Sociology at the university, to be in love with the man she wants, to adopt the political ideology she wants), by breaking the strict rules of her mother and the society she live in. In these four novels, the natural desire of women will be analyzed chronologically, in terms of the formation of the republican woman type, its questioning, criticism and finally its collapse.
