Improving Social Skills through Literacy-Based Learning in the Pengantar Ilmu Sosial Course

This study aims to explore the development of social skills among students in the Pancasila and Civics Education program at Universitas PGRI Ronggolawe, specifically in the Introduction to Social Science course, using a qualitative case study approach. The research involved 16 students, with 4 selected as key informants based on their passive participation in class discussions and group activities. Data were collected through participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and document analysis, including the course syllabus and student assignments. The findings revealed that, initially, most students showed passive behavior in class, hesitating to voice opinions and engage in teamwork. However, after the implementation of literacy-based learning activities, such as article summaries and group presentations, students became more confident and proactive in discussions. The study showed a significant improvement in their social skills, especially in verbal communication, teamwork, and the ability to express ideas logically and coherently. Additionally, group tasks encouraged students to collaborate more effectively, leading to better role distribution within the groups. Overall, the research highlights that literacy-based learning enhances both academic understanding and essential social skills, fostering greater collaboration and empathy among students.
