Air Quenching Process for Heat-Resistant Steels
Abstract An investigation was performed for a better understanding of air quenching process with high-alloyed steels from a consideration of process control and potential procedure standardization. An air quench-ability test established with some high-alloyed steels, such as J120V, J130, and J160 has been reviewed. The results of air quench-ability test have exhibited capacity to distinguish and rank the quench-ability among these high-alloyed steels. It is recommended that the air quenching parameters and procedure should be designed per alloy and/or product basis to ensure the process efficiency and effectiveness. It is further suggested that a common industry standard of air quenching process can assist consistent performance and application of high-alloyed steels.
