Effect of Heat Treatment on Hot Hardness of High Temperature Alloys
Abstract Hot hardness behavior of five high alloys was evaluated with a newly developed hot hardness test method, hot hardness with bulk indentation at L.E. Jones Company (HBJ), for a temperature range from ambient to 900°C. The effect of pretest thermal treatment conditions on hot hardness was evaluated. The hot hardness results obtained clearly revealed differences among five high-alloy materials. A clear ranking of high temperature capability can be defined among these alloys tested based upon the results of hot hardness measurements.
