New IEC standardization framework of environmental aspects needs to be supported by the digital transformation
In this paper we will explain the importance of the new IEC standardization deliverables obtained and the actions in progress to make relations between three combined subjects; The three topics are, the life cycle assessment of electrical equipment (EE) [1] including circular economy aspects, the carbon footprint assessment with a focus on specific rules applicable for high-voltage (HV) [2] and low-voltage (LV) equipment and the digitalization used as enabler to convey the information along the whole life cycle of EE [4]. The importance of data terminology will be emphasised especially when targeting the communication of the environmental performance through a digital product passport. In relation to the operational aspect, this article explains a more detailed way the implementation and the use of extrapolation rules to be applied to the life cycle assessment results to enable a better utilization of environmental product declarations type III.
