Utilization of smart meter systems for IoT communication infrastructure

Smart meter systems are advancing globally and are expected to play many important roles for the energy transition. Smart meter device itself is installed in every household, and a variety of data are corrected realizing operational efficiency through advanced applications, which includes data correction of energy consumption, measurement for voltage and ampere, and control operations of some equipment such as connect/disconnect. Furthermore, it is anticipated that the wide-area network known as the smart meter communication will be utilized for services such as metering for gas and water consumption in addition to electricity and could extend to monitor and control of Distributed Energy Resources (DERs). In this paper, we introduce the role of the smart meter system, Mitsubishi Electric Corp. are developing as also for IoT platform in the energy transition.
