Public transport system from the perspective of persons with disabilities: the case of Poznań, Poland

<ns3:p>Public transport acts as a means of social and economic inclusion for persons with disabilities by facilitating access to relevant opportunities such as education, jobs, healthcare, shopping, or recreation. Existing literature suggests that the use of public transport by persons with disabilities is affected by a diverse group of factors. This paper proposes categorizing these factors into technical and social ones and examining their role using primary data from in-depth interviews conducted in Poznań, Poland. Results show that despite substantial technical improvements, the public transport system still fails to meet the needs of persons with disabilities in some aspects. Results may inform public transport planning and management regarding eliminating physical barriers and promoting activities that improve the social awareness of the needs of persons with disabilities.</ns3:p>
