High performance and high reliability low power voltage transformers in medium voltage accessories
As part of the energy transition the distribution grid must be upgraded with reliable and precise measurements of voltage and current to enable the integration of distributed energy resources and additional loads such as heat pumps and EV loading points. Upgrading existing infrastructure with low power voltage transformers (LPVT) is an integral part of that journey. For retrofitting existing substations, LPVTs are incorporated in the terminations of switch gears. In the case of gas insulated switch gears LPVTs can easily be installed in the back side of the T-bodies. A number of key factors are described to be taken into consideration when applying state-of-the-art LPVT solutions. These include type testing for product robustness, ensuring LPVT accuracy over a range of different impacting conditions and also broad compatibility to different incumbent T-bodies on the market to reduce inventory complexity during rollout.
