The use of ultra-fast LVAC fuses in DC grids: state of art, testing and recommendations
The increase in native DC application leads to an increasing focus on Low Voltage Direct Current (LVDC) distribution grids. However, operating an LVDC grid raises question in the protection against short-circuit and particularly in the behaviour of existing fuses technologies. In this paper, complementary test to a previous analysis on two kinds of conventional Low Voltage Alternating Current (LVAC) fuses are evaluated. The impact of voltage derating, as well as the serial connection of multiple fuses on the current cutting are presented. The conclusion shares some recommendation on the fuses selection method that uses both current derating and voltage derating levers.
