Effects of the measurement data resolution on the derivable value of information
In the ongoing energy transition, measurement data-based processes are being implemented to increase the utilization of the distribution grid and avoid possible overloads. To guarantee cost and data efficiency, the question of which information content is included in medium voltage (MV) measurements of different resolutions and which resolution is required for sufficiently precise state estimation at the MV level is investigated. The analysis of individual measurement series shows that 15-minute measured values provide almost the same information content as 1-minute measured values but that individual peak values are lost due to a coarser resolution. The aggregation of several measurement series shows that fluctuations in the measurement series differences tend to be smoothed out and do not add up structurally. This leads to the conclusion that 15-minute measured values are sufficient for determining the state in an MV grid, as apart from short, larger deviations, they have the same information content as measurements with a 1-minute resolution. An investigation of grid state results based on simulated measured values in different resolutions confirms this result.
