Analysis of the impact of small solar power plants on voltage conditions in a distribution network with pronounced seasonal load

This paper analyzes the impact of the increasing number of solar power plants on the distribution network in the Republic of Croatia, particularly in coastal areas where the network load is highly seasonal due to the significant influence of tourism on the economic structure. As part of the European Union's RepowerEU initiative, solar power plants are expected to contribute to a substantial increase in the share of renewable energy sources, presenting challenges for distribution system operators. The growing share of small-scale solar power production leads to issues with voltage rises in the network, especially during seasonal load variations. The paper presents measurements conducted at one problematic location and analyzes the obtained results. It proposes measures for the remediation of poor voltage conditions and explores various methods and technologies to improve voltage quality. At the core of these solutions lies the need for network modernization and the implementation of innovative technologies that enable better energy management and enhance the reliability of the electricity supply.
