Low voltage investment optimization in the connection of residential buildings
The connection of low voltage (LV) consumers to the electrical grid is a critical aspect of power distribution, requiring compliance with technical specifications such as voltage levels, nominal current, and adequate protection against short circuits and overloads. Traditionally, the connection elements are defined based on the requested power contracted by the installation, which represents the maximum power the connection is obliged to provide. However, in residential buildings with multiple LV connections, the actual peak demand often falls significantly below the requested contracted power. The rollout of smart meters in LV residential buildings provides an unprecedented opportunity to accurately assess peak demand. This divergence between requested power and actual peak demand highlights opportunities to optimize connection design and enhance investment efficiency.
