DNO open data - a case study
Northern Powergrid play a key role in enabling the decarbonisation of our licence areas. Providing useful and accessible open data products is an important part of that role, as we hold large amounts of data that is key to the analysis that can unlock a net zero future. In this paper, we explore how our open data function has worked with a wide range of stakeholders, both internal and external from a variety of origins to build an open data platform that seamlessly connects anyone with the data they are looking for. We outline the process we have developed to identify stakeholders’ data requirements and how we use these to develop open data products. We also explore how we have created a user journey on our Open Data Portal that can direct someone of any knowledge level or interest area to the data they are looking for. We outline the positive answers we have received from stakeholder questionnaires at webinars and our high score from the Distribution System Operation (DSO) Output Delivery Incentive.
