Study on the characteristics of large-scale fast charging loads and their impact on power quality in distribution networks based on field measurements
With the development and widespread adoption of electric vehicles, the rapidly increasing number of EVs has generated a growing demand for charging. This has led to explosive growth in both the number of charging stations and the scale of charging loads. The large-scale, rapid expansion of fast-charging loads, characterized by their non-linear and impulsive load characteristics, cannot be ignored in terms of their impact on the power quality of distribution networks. In this context, based on measured data from fast-charging stations in Shanghai, this paper investigates the individual characteristics of fast-charging loads and their aggregated integration characteristics in distribution networks, while quantitatively analyzing their power quality disturbance characteristics. The research demonstrates that the characteristics of fast-charging loads exhibit significant variations depending on different combinations of chargers and vehicles, while also showing close coupling with the background power quality of the distribution grid.
