Implementation of automatic load transfer in medium voltage networks

This paper presents the implementation of a systemic algorithm for automatic load transfer in medium voltage (MV) networks. Developed to overcome the limitations of conventional local logics, the algorithm operates through the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system to ensure efficient and safe energy redistribution. The methodology evaluates feeder currents, cable diameters, and operational conditions to prevent overloading and improve network reliability. Implemented in the Brazilian electricity distribution network, this solution resulted in an average reduction of 16.56 in the SAIFI (System Average Interruption Frequency Index), directly benefiting 27% of connected consumers, with projections to reach 35% by 2025.
