Procedure model for techno-economic feasibility assessment of BESS on brownfield sites in Switzerland
Especially around generative artificial intelligence (GAI) Switzerland is among the nations with the highest potential for future growth with significant impact on the country`s GDP. At the same time one of the main challenges today is to provide attractive locational conditions to make an establishment of these companies possible. In Switzerland, brownfield sites have significant potential for innovative and forward-thinking transformation. One of the fundamental requirements for technology driven companies in general but especially for high-tech companies is a reliable uninterruptible power supply in any circumstances. With battery energy storage systems (BESS) alternative options are available with positive impact on local emissions, response time and additional revenue opportunities through alternative business models and the stacking of services. The high demand placed on specialist planners means that the need for comprehensive techno-economic planning services is increasing. This paper closes the gap for a generic procedure model for the overall techno-economic assessment of the feasibility of BESS on existing brownfield sites in Switzerland.
