Feasibility Study on Electrification of Produced Water Treatment
Abstract A major study was conducted to determine the feasibility of a multistage process for treatment of the oilfield brine. The proposed treatment scheme examines the application of advanced electrochemical oxidation, microfiltration, adsorption filtration and b iological treatment to meet a slew of water quality parameters for regulatory compliance and environmental discharge. The study presents analytical evaluation for a range of organic and inorganic contaminants present in the oilfield brine and provides key performance indicators for major technologies adopted to treat this brine. A comprehensive review of the test results and reasoning behind selection of each treatment stage and its efficacy for removal of targeted group of contaminants will be provided. The case study provides evidence in support of the electrification of the major treatment stages for high-salinity brine, discusses practical operations of such treatment technologies and explores novel applications of energy-efficient biological treatment for high-salinity and high-temperature oilfield produced water brine.
