A rare case of thyroid amyloidosis
Thyroid amyloidosis is a rare disease in which there is an excessive accumulation of amyloid proteins in the thyroid tissue. It can be a manifestation of both primary and secondary amyloidosis. Thyroid amyloidosis is characterized by the development of goiter, which often leads to compression of the trachea, esophagus, and, less commonly, to dysfunction of the thyroid gland. The final diagnosis is established based on histochemical staining of the histological preparation. Treatment tactics are determined by the functional state of the thyroid gland, the presence of compression syndrome and/or cosmetic defect. The prognosis depends on the underlying cause of amyloidosis and damage to target organs (heart, liver, kidneys). In this clinical case, we describe a 42-year-old patient with thyroid amyloidosis, who complained of neck deformity and had an aggravated family history (older brother and sister died of terminal renal failure due to familial amyloidosis). According to the ultrasound examination (US) of the thyroid gland: V – 101.2 cm3, significant increase in echogenicity, pronounced decrease in blood flow. According to the results of hormonal examination - euthyroidism. According to the thyroid gland trepanobiopsy: amyloid lesion of the thyroid gland. Currently, the patient is under dynamic observation.
