Connected packaging as an evolving packaging technology in the digital age
Connected packaging generally refers to the addition of valid digital codes to commercial packaging, enabling consumers to access digital contents of brands on smart devices. As a type of smart packaging, connected packaging allows commodity suppliers to connect with consumers one-on-one via smart phones, providing useful information and promoting interaction between consumers and brands. The use of digital codes in the food and beverage sector is on the rise, and the launch of products incorporating the codes has grown significantly worldwide. This paper introduces connected packaging as an innovative packaging technology and discusses its current status and applications in the food industry.
