An Innovative Study on Completion Strategies for High-Pressure Horizontal Air Injection Wells in In-situ Combustion: Advancing Efficiency and Recovery in A Western Indian Field
Abstract This study investigates an advanced completion strategy for horizontal air injectors in the heavy oil-bearing The field of Western Asset, where high oil viscosity and low recovery efficiency have necessitated enhanced oil recovery (EOR) techniques. Although in-situ combustion (ISC) was previously implemented with promising results in the southern sector, the northern sector lagged due to low vertical sweep efficiency and water encroachment. Following recommendations from the Institute of Reservoir Studies, a hybrid well development model using horizontal injectors and producers was proposed. The manuscript outlines a technically robust completion design, highlighting casing and cementing practices, thermally and chemically resistant materials, and flow control mechanisms. It incorporates global best practices and addresses site-specific challenges such as corrosion, sand control and thermal stresses. By focusing on materials of construction (MOC), packer design and chemical inhibitors, the proposed solution aims to enhance injectivity and operational longevity, while maximizing areal sweep and oil recovery.
