Sustainable Management Practices: How Businesses are Balancing Profit and Planet

With the increase in environmental concerns and pressure of stakeholders, companies are finding solutions to strike a balance between profit and planet. This research examines how sustainable management practices (SMPs) affect the performance of firms, and organizational innovation mediates it and environmental uncertainty moderates it. The survey data were gathered using a quantitative research design, and the proposed relationships were tested with the help of structural equation modeling (SEM). The results demonstrate that sustainable management practices are associated with the improvement of the firm performance greatly, which proves that environmentally responsible strategies are beneficial as well. Moreover, organizational innovation also moderates this relationship, which means that sustainability programs drive creativity in products, processes and services, which subsequently enhances firm performance. Environmental uncertainty is observed to moderate the SMP-performance relationship positively with environment turbulence indicating that sustainability is even more critical where adaptability is the key to survival and growth. The total model shows a good fit, which supports integration of stakeholder theory, dynamic capabilities and contingency views theoretically. This study adds to the sustainability literature in the sense that it provides a comprehensive perspective of how companies can attain financial success and responsibility to the environment at the same time. It also offers useful advice to managers, including the need to incorporate sustainability in the main processes, to use sustainability as an innovation enhancer, and its usage as a resilience approach in uncertain situations.
