أحداث عصر المأمون كما ترويها النقود
Coins are very important for verifying the information given by historical sources, correcting mistakes and filling the deficiencies. In addition to their economic importance, information on the dates of accession to the throne and death of the rulers of the period, the titles and epithets they received, heirs, appointed or dismissed governors, the relations between ruler and vassal, the symbols used by the dynasty, rebellions, etc. can be obtained from coins. Many numismatists have produced important works in this field, which is also called the science of numismatics. One of these numismatists, Semir Shamma, specialised in the coins of the Abbasid period. In this study, Shamma's أحداث عصر المأمون كما ترويها النقود (Events in the Period of al-Ma'mūn as Expressed by Coins), which he wrote about the coins issued during the reign of the Abbasid caliph Me'mūn, will be introduced and criticised. The work consists of three main parts, the first part describes the political history of the reign of al-Ma'mun, and the second and third parts classify and analyse the coins minted during the reign of al-Ma'mun. The work provides detailed information about the coins of the Ma'mun period and makes comparisons with the information provided by the sources. In this sense, it is an important work that should be consulted by researchers doing research on the reign of al-Ma'mun.
