Structural Equation Analysis of the Mediating Effects of Decentering and Acceptance Behavior in the Relationship Between Mindfulness and Happiness
Mindfulness has been widely recognized for its beneficial effects on psychological well-being. However, the specific mechanisms through which it influences positive outcomes like happiness remain underexplored. This study aimed to examine the mediating effects of decentering and acceptance in the relationship between mindfulness and happiness through structural equation modeling. Data were collected from 305 university students using the Mindfulness Scale, Decentering Scale, Acceptance and Action Questionnaire, and Happiness Scale. Based on the collected data, correlation analysis, hierarchical regression analysis, measurement model analysis, and structural equation modeling were conducted. The results revealed that the structural model, in which decentering and acceptance act as mediators in the relationship between mindfulness and happiness, showed significance. Specifically, it was found that mindfulness influences happiness indirectly through decentering and acceptance, rather than having a direct effect. This study contributes to a deeper understanding of the mediating roles of decentering and acceptance in the relationship between mindfulness and happiness. It highlights the applicability and practical implications of mindfulness as a psychological intervention. Furthermore, it emphasizes its potential to enhance positive emotions and happiness.
