A study on elementary school students’ statistical literacy in a statistics poster project based on the statistical problem solving process
This study aims to develop and implement a statistics poster project for sixth-grade elementary school students and to analyze the characteristics and levels of their statistical literacy. To achieve this, students’ statistical literacy was examined using an analytical framework based on the components of statistical literacy, and pre- and post-tests were conducted to com pare and analyze changes in their performance. The results showed differences in students’ statistical literacy levels across spe cific components, and the comparison of test results revealed statistically significant improvement after the project. These find ings suggest that all components and phases of the Statistical Problem Solving Process should be addressed in a balanced man ner in statistics education. This study is meaningful in that it demonstrates the positive impact of a statistics poster project, which allows students to engage in the entire process of statistical problem solving, on the development of their statistical literacy.
