Determining the parameters of mid-century Ger components

The Mongolian ger was inscribed on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity at the 8th session of UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage Committee. This traditional dwelling embodies essential features of the nomadic lifestyle, contributing to its global popularity. It can be assembled in approximately one hour and disassembled in under an hour, which enhances its portability and ease of relocation. Mongolian Ger has been developed through traditional customs and handcraft and made it to the 20th century; however, the parameters of mid-century Ger have yet to be studied. This study examines the parameters of archaeological findings related to the remaining walls of mid-century Gers from three different locations. The analysis relies on notes by Menes from 1988, which pertain to the 10th to 12th centuries, and observations by mid-century tourist Rubruck. We established the constant of Ger “n” to determine the parameters of the wall remains. This study examines the Mongolian ger as a cultural phenomenon, focusing on its historical developments. It establishes a consistent numerical value (n) for the ger’s wooden components, highlighting its relevance in modern design. The findings emphasize the continuity of Mongolian architectural identity and promote sustainable housing for nomadic communities.
