Factibilidad del uso de Ozono en la Agroindustria como Tecnología Socialmente Responsable
The main objective of this study was based on determining the potential benefits as well as the feasibility of using ozone as an alternative for pest prevention in agribusiness, considering social, economic, and environmental aspects, in order to provide recommendations that could contribute to its effective implementation. The foundation of this analysis came from the review of literature, analysis of official reports, and case studies, where it was confirmed that the intensive use of pesticides had caused negative impacts on farmers, on the contamination of agricultural soils, and on food safety. On the other hand, the application of ozone offered a viable alternative to counteract such negative effects in the control of certain pests and microorganisms without affecting food quality and without leaving toxic residues. However, it was observed that its implementation had been limited due to high investment costs, farmers’ resistance to change, and the need for continuous staff training. It was concluded that, although ozone proved to be a promising solution, as an emerging technology, long-term studies to support its efficiency and real contribution to sustainability were not yet available.
