Artificial Material with Multiparameter to Control Effective Permittivity and Its Application in Resonant Cavity Antenna

Artificial material consisting of rectangular metallic patches is studied in this paper. The artificial material has two adjustable variables, allowing its effective permittivity to be controlled easily. An artificial material with a relative dielectric constant of 39.0 is designed and applied in a resonant cavity antenna (RCA). The experimental result shows that the gain of RCA is 11.4 dBi, which is 4.3 dBi higher than that of the patch antenna only.

Abstract

Artificial material consisting of rectangular metallic patches is studied in this paper. The artificial material has two adjustable variables, allowing its effective permittivity to be controlled easily. An artificial material with a relative dielectric constant of 39.0 is designed and applied in a resonant cavity antenna (RCA). The experimental result shows that the gain of RCA is 11.4 dBi, which is 4.3 dBi higher than that of the patch antenna only.
