The Effect of Blood Hemodynamics on the Design of a Medical Braided Stent: a One Way Fluid-Structure Interaction Study
Medical stents play a crucial role in restoring blood flow from cardiovascular diseases such as atherosclerosis. This study investigates the hemodynamic behavior of blood and structural response of metallic braided stent using one-way fluid-structure interaction approach. An idealized carotid model was generated. Blood was assumed to be a Newtonian, incompressible fluid. Pressure loads were mapped onto the stent for static and fatigue analysis. Results show that the stent experiences negligible deformation. Infinite life is predicted. The study confirms that braided stents are insensitive to physiological loadings while highlighting its influence on blood flow dynamics.
