Dual Polarized Aperture Fed Antenna for Sub6 GHz 5G Applications
This paper presents the design and evaluation of a compact dual-polarized aperture-fed microstrip antenna intended for sub-6 GHz 5 G applications. The antenna operates in the 2.77-3.10 GHz frequency range and utilizes a stacked patch topology over a multilayer substrate to achieve wide angular coverage and polarization diversity. The structure comprises orthogonally polarized square radiating patches excited through aperture slots etched on the ground plane, ensuring high isolation between ports and good impedance matching. Electromagnetic simulations indicate a reflection coefficient below –10 dB across the operating band, a peak realized gain of 7.2 dBi, and a broad half-power beamwidth of approximately 89.6°. Additionally, the antenna exhibits low side lobe levels (–14.6 dB), making it well-suited for multi-user environments, phased array implementations, and beam-steering applications. The proposed antenna offers a practical and scalable solution for compact 5G infrastructure, balancing high performance with structural simplicity.
