Sustainability Evaluation of Construction Materials: A Multi-Dimensional Radar

We propose an updated spreadsheet-based "Radar" tool for sustainable material selection, to support the systematic analysis of the sustainability of construction projects from a perspective of the life cycle of the project. The tool generates a radar visualization by computing five indicators: Total Cost of Ownership (TCO), Durability, Optimization, Structural Efficiency, as well as Adaptability & Resilience (Environmental & Social Impact). Such an intuitive visualization will help evaluate the sustainability of construction projects.

Abstract

We propose an updated spreadsheet-based "Radar" tool for sustainable material selection, to support the systematic analysis of the sustainability of construction projects from a perspective of the life cycle of the project. The tool generates a radar visualization by computing five indicators: Total Cost of Ownership (TCO), Durability, Optimization, Structural Efficiency, as well as Adaptability & Resilience (Environmental & Social Impact). Such an intuitive visualization will help evaluate the sustainability of construction projects.
