A Dielectric Antenna for Leaky- and Standing-Wave Radiations

The next-generation mobile networks demand seamless integration of high-speed wireless communication and advanced sensing capabilities, critical for intelligent connectivity. Addressing these challenges, this paper introduces a novel unifiedaperture dielectric antenna capable of simultaneously generating leaky-wave and standing-wave radiations in the millimeter-wave band with orthogonal polarizations. The leaky-wave radiation provides frequency diversity for high-speed sensing, while the standing-wave antenna array is capable of realizing phased array beam scanning for communication by using feeding network. This design ensures low-latency, high-rate performance for integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) tasks. A prototype platform featuring a leaky-wave antenna and a <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$1 \times 16$</tex> standing-wave antenna array is proposed, demonstrating 28.5 % operational bandwidth and a <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$\mathbf{5 0}^{\boldsymbol{\circ}}$</tex> beam scanning range. Abstract

The next-generation mobile networks demand seamless integration of high-speed wireless communication and advanced sensing capabilities, critical for intelligent connectivity. Addressing these challenges, this paper introduces a novel unifiedaperture dielectric antenna capable of simultaneously generating leaky-wave and standing-wave radiations in the millimeter-wave band with orthogonal polarizations. The leaky-wave radiation provides frequency diversity for high-speed sensing, while the standing-wave antenna array is capable of realizing phased array beam scanning for communication by using feeding network. This design ensures low-latency, high-rate performance for integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) tasks. A prototype platform featuring a leaky-wave antenna and a <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$1 \times 16$</tex> standing-wave antenna array is proposed, demonstrating 28.5 % operational bandwidth and a <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$\mathbf{5 0}^{\boldsymbol{\circ}}$</tex> beam scanning range. Experimental validations confirm its potential for next-generation ISAC applications.
