Nonlinear Power Flow Routing in MAB Converters

This paper introduces a novel nonlinear control strategy for Multi-Active Bridge (MAB) converters, designed as modular DC power routers. Our method directly solves the exact nonlinear power flow equations using a Newton-Raphson algorithm, enabling precise and dynamic power regulation in multi-port DC systems without relying on linearized models or fixed gain matrices. Validated on a 4-port MAB through MATLAB/Simulink simulations, this approach demonstrates superior power tracking and decoupling compared to linear feedforward control. For example, the Newton-Raphson method achieved a negligible 0.5% port interaction during a step change, significantly outperforming the 4.2% seen with linear feedforward control. Its rapid convergence (typically 1-3 iterations) ensures real-time feasibility for embedded implementation, even on mid-range microcontrollers, making it highly effective for advanced DC power routing.
