Computational Fluid Dynamics-Aided Optimization of Spoiler Deflection Angle

The optimization of the spoiler deflection angle plays a critical role in enhancing vehicle aerodynamic performance, effectively balancing stability and energy efficiency. Through CFD simulation analysis, this study evaluates the impact of two spoiler deflection angles $\left(-8^{\circ}\right.$ and $\left.-10^{\circ}\right)$ on the vehicle’s drag characteristics and driving stability. A comparative analysis of the drag coefficient (Cd) and lift coefficient (CI) under these configurations was conducted. The results indicate that the CP configuration (-10° deflection angle) achieves a drag coefficient of 0.322, lower than the OP configuration’s (-8° deflection angle) 0.332, demonstrating that increasing the deflection angle improves rear airflow management by reducing vortex generation and flow separation. Additionally, the CP configuration exhibits a lift coefficient of 0.0131, slightly higher than the OP configuration’s 0.0111, indicating a marginal reduction in downforce while maintaining sufficient stability at high speeds. Future research should explore the influence of additional spoiler design parameters on aerodynamic performance to achieve further optimization of overall vehicle dynamics.
