Electricity Regulatory Authority Roles in Addressing Lebanon's Electrical Network Crises under the IR4.0
The global energy sector is transforming due to technological advancements, renewable energy adoption, and artificial intelligence (AI) integration. Conversely, Lebanon faces challenges such as outdated infrastructure, frequent power outages, and financial instability, with only 50% support for its electrical load. As the country enters the Fourth Industrial Revolution, it must modernize its energy network. This paper discusses the role of Lebanon's electricity regulatory authority in revitalizing the power sector through generative AI, which can enhance grid efficiency, lower costs, and accelerate renewable energy adoption. Achieving these goals requires a strong regulatory framework and strategic policies. The study highlights how regulatory policies can foster AI-driven innovation, balance technological progress with affordability, and address Lebanon's unique challenges. By analyzing successful case studies from India’s Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC), the research provides practical insights for stakeholders, advocating for reforms that promote collaboration, technological advancement, and the creation of a resilient electricity network.
