Rapid Adjustment Conveyor Guide Rail Solution for Industrial Production Lines
Conveyor systems play a crucial role in today’s industrial sector, allowing efficient material handling across multiple industries. This paper presents the design of a rapid-adjustment conveyor guide rail system to improve product alignment and operational efficiency. After exploring common adjustable guide rail systems in the market and comparing alternatives, the design of an optimal solution was made based on cost, time efficiency, and simplicity. Key mechanical system components such as the driven and driving shafts, along with gears and rack and pinion mechanisms were incorporated and designed. Stress analysis was performed either through hand calculations and coded software algorithms based on textbook or using Finite Element Analysis to make sure the proposed SOLIDWORKS system model was functional and stable. The results confirmed that all components operated safely within the design parameters. The gears achieved a Factor of safety (FOS) of 2.44 for wear and 6.07 for bending, while the driving and driven shafts, designed at 20mm and 35mm respectively, had an average FOS of 3. The rack and pinion mechanism was also well within safe limits, showing a maximum displacement of 6mm and a FOS of 2.5. After that, a prototype was manufactured and assembled to confirm important constraints such as safety, cost, and ease of use. Designed for single-person operation, the system improves productivity by reducing the need for manual intervention and downtime, offering practical advancement for modern conveyor systems. The innovation in this work is introducing to the market a rapid-adjustment conveyor guide rail system that reduces manual intervention while ensuring safe and stable operation.
