Revolutionizing Education: Artificial Intelligence (AI) Educational Tools in Research and FactChecking, Challenges, and Future Insights
This study examines the role of AI educational tools in supporting academic tasks among BSEd students. It specifically assesses AI utilization for research and fact-checking among second-year Science students at Caraga State University. Using a descriptive approach, the study employed a validated survey questionnaire to collect data and Focus Group Discussion (FGD) to explore participants deeper insights into how students perceive and interact with AI tools beyond quantitative survey results. Random sampling, based on Cochran’s formula, yielded a sample size of 80 out of 100 students. Data analysis involved frequency counts and means to interpret AI tool usage and student engagement patterns. Findings show that the most commonly used AI tools ChatGPT, google scholar. Students reported using ChatGPT to brainstorm, outline papers, and formulate research questions, demonstrating its aid in initial research stages. students’ potential over-reliance on AI raised concerns about diminished critical thinking. They may lose the ability to analyze information and form original arguments. Furthermore, questions about AI’s reliability, accuracy, and transparency persisted during factchecking. Students must develop robust evaluation skills. This study highlighted the ethical implications of AI in education, notably data privacy and algorithmic bias. AI’s dependence on large datasets poses data privacy risks. Institutions must implement strong data protection policies. Algorithmic bias can lead to discriminatory outcomes. Educators and developers must actively mitigate this bias. Limited internet access hindered AI’s full potential, particularly in remote areas, exacerbating existing inequalities. Despite challenges, AI offers opportunities to enhance research and instruction. Strategic AI integration improves student engagement and fosters research-driven learning. In addressing AI dependence, internet accessibility, and ethical concerns. Educators must prioritize digital literacy, and institutions must implement robust data governance. Ongoing research and dialogue are crucial for responsible AI integration in education.
