Actual Power Curve Construction and Detection of Normal and Abnormal Data in Wind Turbine Operation: AlFujeij Wind Farm Case Study
Wind energy plays a key role in global efforts to use renewable energy, but the constant wind turbine efficiency under longtime operation is affected by a range of external, mechanical and control issues. This research examines how the AlFujeij Wind Turbine in Jordan operated from 2016 to 2023 using SCADA and compared it to the power curves given by the manufacturer. Anomalies and deviations were detected in annual power curves constructed using advanced data cleaning and curve fitting approaches in MATLAB, with a 7th-order Fourier series model. It is clear that the results show a worsening of performance, mainly in the middle to higher wind range, caused by wear, control problems and other environmental reasons. This approach permitted us to identify which results were unusual, observe changes in trends over time and build precise models for normal turbine behavior. The conclusions show that regularly supervising performance and doing maintenance as required helps both the energy produced and the assets used in wind farms.
