Evaluating Optimal PCM Integration in Building Envelopes Across Lebanese Regions
The world's energy consumption is increasing, depleting available resources and causing environmental issues like climate change. It's critical to develop solutions that decrease energy use, especially in the building sector. Thermal energy storage systems have emerged as a promising solution to reduce energy consumption and control indoor temperatures. Phase change materials (PCMs) are especially useful because they store and release heat as temperatures change. This study investigates the performance of Bio-based Phase Change Materials (BioPCMs) with melting points ranging from 18°C to 29°C across four distinct climatic regions in Lebanon: Beirut, Riyek, Marjaayoun, and Bcharre. By using real climate data, the study examines how local weather affects the performance of these materials. The results show that choosing the right PCM for each climate can improve energy savings and indoor comfort, offering a better way to design energy-efficient buildings.
