Wide-Angle Beam Scanning Leaky-Wave Antenna with Built-in Bandstop Filtering for Sensing in ISAC Applications

This report shows a novel leaky-wave antenna design for sensing part in integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) system, which achieves a wide-angle beam-scanning with frequency-selective bandstop filtering functionalities to avoid interference of the existing communication bands (i.e. N257, N258). Such wide-angle beam scanning is achieved by utilizing both fundamental and −1st space harmonic modes. A natural closed stopband (CSB) between these two leaky modes provides a bandstop filtering capability. Experimental results illustrate the seamless beam scanning range from <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$-66^{\circ}$</tex> to 47.4° within dualpassband (<tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$23.5-24 \text{GHz}$</tex> and <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$31-43 \text{GHz}$</tex>). The maximum gain throughout the operating band is 14.8 dBi.

Abstract

This report shows a novel leaky-wave antenna design for sensing part in integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) system, which achieves a wide-angle beam-scanning with frequency-selective bandstop filtering functionalities to avoid interference of the existing communication bands (i.e. N257, N258). Such wide-angle beam scanning is achieved by utilizing both fundamental and −1st space harmonic modes. A natural closed stopband (CSB) between these two leaky modes provides a bandstop filtering capability. Experimental results illustrate the seamless beam scanning range from <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$-66^{\circ}$</tex> to 47.4° within dualpassband (<tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$23.5-24 \text{GHz}$</tex> and <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$31-43 \text{GHz}$</tex>). The maximum gain throughout the operating band is 14.8 dBi.
