Efficiency of Laser-Excited Phosphor in Multilayer Dual Reflector for Automotive Lighting
This paper presents an insight and comprehensive efficiency analysis of an advanced automotive front-lighting system based on laser-excited phosphor. The proposed solution employs a high-power blue laser diode fiber-coupled to a phosphor plate. When combined with a dielectric multilayer reflector design, the auxiliary high-beam module achieves a peak luminous intensity of 130,000 cd. Experimental measurements demonstrate a wall-plug efficiency of 6.6% and a luminous efficacy of 23 lm/W for the integrated headlamp system. This design extends the vehicle’s high-beam illumination range to 600 m, offering substantial improvements in visibility and safety.
