Performance Analysis for 6G Local Area Networks: Optimization and Trade-Offs
In the sixth generation (6G) wireless communication systems, local area network (LAN) is set to bring a revolutionary change to smart homes, industrial Internet, intelligent healthcare, and various fields. Leveraging its ultra-high data rate, ultra-low latency, and massive connectivity, it will serve as a pivotal pillar for an intelligently connected future. In this paper, the use cases for 6G LAN are investigated and a novel performance optimization scheme, called building-aware communication optimization scheme, is proposed. The proposed scheme considers the impacts of building characteristics on the system performance and an example of wall material optimization is presented. Moreover, given the limited resources and natural conflicts between key performance indicators (KPIs), the performance trade-offs are investigated, including spectrum efficiency (SE), energy efficiency (EE), cost efficiency (CE), latency, reliability, and sensing capacity. Finally, we identify the research challenges and outline the future directions.
