Iodine and Bone Disease: The Early Prevention of Bone Disease through Lifestyle Changes (Diet) in Elderly

Bone diseases such as Osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, osteopenia, and osteomalacia all affect elderly individuals in ways that increase their risk of fractures, and diminish their life quality. The essential nutrient iodine functions especially crucial in bone health since it controls thyroid hormone regulation processes that help remodel bones. The natural decrease of both estrogen and testosterone during aging causes accelerated bone loss, so hormonal disparities rise as a significant factor in osteoporosis development. Weak bones develop more quickly when people do not get enough calcium as well as vitamin D and iodine in their diet. To protect skeletal structures and stop their deterioration, patients must maintain an iodine-rich diet, participate in weight-bearing ranked movements, and follow reasonable life adjustments. People who eat seafood and dairy products or seaweed gain iodine, while sunlight exposure enables vitamin D creation in their bodies. Regular reduction of alcohol use and smoking helps prevent several bone problems. This research demonstrates that bone integrity preservation in older adults’ benefits from iodine alongside essential nutrients and nutritional and behavioral changes to help minimize bone disease prevalence.
