AVB-aware fault-tolerance routing of time-triggered traffic in time-sensitive networks
Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN) provides deterministic services to meet the stringent transmission requirements in industrial applications. The seamless redundancy mechanism in TSN consumes additional network resources to mitigate the impact of network disruptions, such as packet loss or transmission errors, on Time-triggered (TT) traffic. However, limited network resources imply that excessive allocation to TT traffic may reduce the available bandwidth for other types of traffic, particularly audio-video-bridging (AVB) traffic, which requires worst-case delay (WCD) guarantees. To address this, we propose an AVB-aware fault-tolerant routing (AAFTR) that flexibly combines temporal and spatial redundancy mechanisms based on the redundancy needs of TT traffic, while also taking AVB traffic into account. By selecting optimal routes for TT traffic, AAFTR ensures the flexibility of TT fault-tolerant scheduling while reducing the negative impact of TT redundancy on AVB traffic performance. Experimental results show that our AAFTR ensures fault-tolerant scheduling for TT traffic while significantly reducing interference with AVB traffic, thereby improving AVB scheduling performance.
